Monroe County historian Rick Smith will give his presentation, “Jack the Ripper” as part of the Third Thursday Lecture Series. The program will be Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at the Stroud Mansion, 900 Main Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
Rick will discuss the Jack the Ripper murders that took place in the seedy outskirts of London in 1888. During the presentation, Rick will examine the murders, the contemporary suspects, and some modern-day suspects that have been brought forward in the past 130 years. He will also explore the many instances Jack the Ripper has entered modern day through books, films, and even toys and comic books.
Rick is a Monroe County Native who lives in Jackson Township with his wife, Kelley. He retired from Sanofi Pasteur in Swiftwater after 44 years of service. He also served on the Pocono Mountain School Board for 23 years.
The 3rd Thursday Lecture Series is free, but reservations are required due to limited space. Light refreshments will be served. The presentation will be held on the 2nd floor of the Stroud Mansion, which is not handicap-accessible.
